I can count the many situations that make this world very complicated. Hurricane Harvey, Irma, and Maria were catastrophic and the senseless shooting in Las Vegas was just plain senseless. And let’s not forget the earthquake in Mexico. Inspiration seems dimmed and unattainable. Where do you grab perspective?
As May marks Mental Health Month, I’m proud to be a speaker at the Administrator’s Forum at the Florida Council for Community Mental Health. On May 18, I’ll be presenting Social Media Recruiting and Building Culture in Orlando. I have a tremendous respect for the mental health industry and truly humbled to be a presenting at the conference. There have been valuable conversations on mental health and I have taken great pride in creating this presentation.
Nope, the title doesn’t have a typo. ‘Wellth’ is defined by Jason Wachob as a new and more valuable life currency. A life exemplified by abundance, happiness, purpose, health, and joy. And yes, I was very intrigued by Jason’s concept. His first book, Wellth is an easy and simple read about topics in life which emphasizes self-care. Eat move, live, love, laugh and other life essentials are clearly written with personal stories and inspiring quotes.
Based in Brooklyn, NY, Jason is the founder and CEO of the wellness site, www.mindbodygreen.com. His site garners 10 million monthly unique visitors! I’ve been a loyal Twitter follower to his wellness site as it reflects Little Giant Life’s intention. In his book, Jason takes us on a journey of becoming ‘wellthy’ mind, body, and green.
At most this book was a refresher on how to play closer attention to yourself. Pushing ourselves to be the best in life shouldn’t be the priority. Wellth explains how we can take simple steps in having a better lifestyle. He brings vulnerability of his trials and errors in life and doing all he can to make it right.
Many lessons dive deep into this book. My main takeaway is this. Practice
Habito para comer bien. Habito para moverse bien.
Practice what it would feel like to have job satisfaction. Practice and be mindful to all your wishes for it to come true.
I partnered with Harmony Books to share #WELLTH with you. All opinions and words are my own. To learn more about the book, please click here.
What actionable steps can you take today to become wellthy?
Cat cow stretch. Child’s pose and downward dog. These are just a few stretching exercised I do as soon as I roll out of bed. After 20 years of teaching dance (transitioning into something else..stay tuned) my body sometimes becomes very stiff. As we listen to our bodies, it’s crucial to give it the TLC as needed.
Make a promise to yourself to treat your body the best way possible. In my opinion, the best time to stretch is in the morning. You’ve spent a whole night without mobility which is great! Sleep is crucial. In the morning, stretching sets the tone for the day. It’s also an incredible feeling to relieve your body of any stress it might have from the day before.
Stretching relieves stress
Increase energy levels.
Improves circulation to the body.
And most of all, it centers the mind.
For those of us who sit long periods of time at your desk, take your well-deserved break. Perhaps this will motivate you to stretch!
